WHAT IS RUCKING
Rucking is the action of walking with weight on your back. Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack) is a low impact exercise based on military training workouts.
Hiking is rucking in the mountains and urban hiking is simply called rucking. You've probably even spent time rucking - traveling, bringing books to school, or on your commute to work. Carrying weight is a necessary part of life, and as it turns out, humans are naturally good at it, too.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Every ruck starts at 5:30 AM sharp
We ask that newcomers arrive about 15 minutes early to allow time to find the parking lot, unload, meet a few people, etc.
The loop we ruck is 3 miles, and we almost always finish in under an hour (20 min pace). This depends on the week, size of the group, etc.If you can walk 3 miles, you can do this workout.
There is no monetary commitment or any rules such as "have to come every week to be a member" anything like that. Come as you can, when you can! We do give out club patches once you've attended 5 times, though!
Dress appropriately (weather appropriate exercise clothes), water, and your rucksack! If you do not have a rucksack, a sturdy backpack with evenly distributed weight should work just fine! Most people will put dog food, cat litter, dumbells, etc in their sack.We also have a limited amount of loaner rucksacks that you can borrow during the ruck, to see if you like the fit before deciding to purchase. Please let us know in advance in you need a loaner.
We are a relatively larger club, in comparison to some others, with average attendance of 15-20 people. There are men and women, ranging in age from 16 - 60+. Some are veterans, most are people that found rucking as exercise! We will ensure beginners are participating safely, and we will help you scale the ruck to fit your current exercise level! We almost always incorporate some form of "coupons" (sandbags, weighted buckets, stretchers, kettlebells, etc) as additional items to carry. Each week varies, but we always maintain a team environment that challenges us to work together to finish the ruck! Most of us stick around afterwards for coffee, food, and conversation!
Club Leadership
The team behind everything BRC.
Taylor - Founder
Taylor first got into rucking back at Penn State through ROTC, where his very first event was the Lt. Michael Murphy Tough in State College, PA. What started as a tough workout quickly turned into a love for rucking—building grit, staying strong, and just being outside with a pack on.
Now a chiropractor, Taylor quickly realized how much rucking carried over into everyday health. It’s low-cost, joint-friendly, and sneaky good for both strength and endurance. After finishing school, he wanted a way to mix fitness with community, and that’s how the Buckhead Ruck Club was born.
Starting during the pandemic, the club gave people a simple, affordable, and welcoming way to get moving together. Since then, they’ve logged more than 150 rucks around Atlanta and grown into a crew of 50+ members. Along the way, the club has helped people train for all kinds of events—from GORUCK 12-milers and Lights, to 50-milers, HTB, and even Kokoro 50.
But if you ask Taylor, the real win isn’t the patches or miles—it’s the friendships, the teamwork, and the type 2 fun that keeps everyone coming back.
Torri - Marketing & Operations
Torri joined Buckhead Ruck Club in April 2021, after meeting Taylor at a marketing event for his chiropractic clinic. Like many who’ve joined, she had no prior rucking experience. She just showed up, put in the miles, and quickly got hooked.
Her first ruck challenge came just 3 months later: a GoRuck Tough in Atlanta, led by cadre JC Jordan (who might be all smiles at ruck club but brings the intensity at challenge events… if you know, you know). Since then, she’s completed several events, including 4 GoRuck Toughs, a Triple Basic, CHAD1000x (3 times), and a mix of local formal and informal challenges.
Although Torri is most recognized for leading Buckhead Ruck Club’s marketing and communications efforts, she’s also known for fueling the crew with her homemade baked goods. Sourdough English muffins, bagels, muffins, and even pancakes have all made an appearance at ruck club.
Most of all, Torri is passionate about growing the ruck community in Atlanta and loves welcoming new members to discover the same challenge, community, and newfound friendships that first hooked her.
Robin - Membership Coordinator
Robin first got into rucking in December 2020, adding it to her already full 7-days-a-week CrossFit routine. What started as “just another workout” quickly became a passion—she even kept up a streak of rucking a mile a day for over 400 straight days.
At ruck club, Robin is everyone’s biggest cheerleader, always bringing energy and encouragement. For her, the best part of rucking isn’t just the miles—it’s the community. That’s what keeps her setting her alarm for 4:30 a.m. and showing up ready to go.
